Lairg is conveniently located for enjoying the Northern Highlands of Scotland. Situated at the 'crossroads' of the highlands, it offers easy access to the North, South, East or West on often deserted roads.

There is excellent road access and also a rail link to Inverness and Wick/Thurso with a station in the village. If you prefer to fly, there is an airport at Inverness (55 miles away).

Lairg has shops, a wonderful new Cafe, a hotel, bars, 2 restaurants, a Fish & Chip Shop and other amenities including a petrol station, doctor's surgery, pharmacy and a bank which has an ATM. Some beautiful images of the village, taken by a local photographer, are visible here:



The nearby Ferrycroft Information Centre has guides for activities in the area, including superb local walking, forest trails, and details of the nearby neolithic settlement remains.

Slightly further away are highly regarded restaurants at Bonar Bridge and Pittenrail.

Loch Shin, which can be seen from the cottage, offers sailing and fishing. Boat hire is available locally.

The village caters for most needs, and the towns of Alness, Tain, Golspie, Dingwall and Dornoch, as well as the city of Inverness, are within easy reach by car or bus.
